Members of All Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS) staged a demonstration in Chennai yesterday to protest against the recent Supreme Court ruling that male police officers can arrest women even without the presence of women police officers .
Raising their voice against this, at least 50 members of AIMSS held placards saying, 'Do not push many as scapegoats on the plea of arresting one single women' and 'Do not give unlimited powers to police' and urged the apex court to review its decision.
Addressing the members, Jeyapaul, State Organising Committee of SUCI, said the ruling had come at a time when atrocities on women were on the increase. He said that 'in order to stop the cultural degradation and to ensure protection to women, the court should reconsider its order' AIMSS members said they would intensify their struggle if the decision was not revoked.
