i was in kashipur areas for a month after 1st dec,
2004 and came today . After brutal action of police
people were in fear . state government mobilised all
police including paramilitary forces meant for
insurgents to crush this democratic struggle during
this one month and are kept at Tikiri police station
(10km from plant site)with three magistrates all the
time upto yesterday. Two platoons police near
Kucheipadar village all the time with firing order in
the night and watching the developments.
you must have received all other mails from different
groups so it is not essential again to update it
but when i came TODAY from the area we had already
continiously three days road blockade programe not
permitting the UAIL to complete even the road
connecting plant to mining site.
on the one side heavy police platoons with UAIL
officials including Ardhendu MOhapatra of UAIL now
project manager and on the other side determined
tribals of several villages on the road standing and
sitting without any noise and without any weapons even
not a stick on their hand. They are cooking their
foods in the evening for next day also and are coming
from early morning on the road even much before the
officials and contractors come.
Police and district collector has sent message why
people are not demanding more packages instead of not
leaving land. And people speak except our land we
don’t want any thing. I was surprised when mainly
women came in front of police again for the second
time in a month – ready to face the consequences.
16 people were arreasted in different six cases none
of them have yet been granted bail. If one gets bail
on one case then police put another case against him.
Even the local judge has threated the bailors not to
bail out the jail in mates further if they go against
the company and the bailor should not go against the
company otherwise would be put in jail. This is the
threatening from judicial magistrate of kashipur. The
man who was looking after the cases day before
yesterday was threated by police if go again for
making bail will be put in the jail in one of cases.
None of the jail mates have been realeased since their
arreast of 1st December, 2004. but surprisingly people
have accepted this terror state and Naveen’s (the
chief minister of orissa ) attitude as obvious because
all these forces have received money for election and
are getting bribes regularly. Development is a coax.
i came from this grave situation today to find other
ways but if the government pushes more then looking to
the determination of people , the police may opt for
more firing like 2000AD 16th december, and death of
more tribals .
I should not write more about my situation there but
this is first in my experiences and I have seen none
of the democratic struggles in orissa earlier had
faced so much repression and for a longer time.
We are facing real consequences of privatization and
MNCsraj.
we may lack real solidarity of groups if the state
becomes more aggressive favouring the companies.
More team should reach and stay
We lack funds also to look after the cases
More journalists and writers should come forward
