What is Youth Solidarity Summer?

Youth Solidarity Summer is a week of training for desis intent on changing the
world! If you're 17 to 24 years of age, with roots in South Asia, we offer you a
unique place to:

learn about the histories of popular struggles in South Asia and North America
meet with progressive community activists and organizations
share strategies for personal and political change and solidarity with other youth
explore ways of using the arts for social change
take the struggle for social justice back to your own communities!

Youth Solidarity Summer (YSS) was founded in 1997 to create a space where
South Asian youth in the U.S. and Canada could work together for social change
in their communities. The week-long program is organized by a collective of
educators, activists, artists, and professionals. Many of us feel the need to educate
and organize against conservatism and bigotry within our own communities, as
well as to mobilize against inequality and oppression in the larger society. YSS
seeks to build a supportive network for collective action and to provide education
truly relevant to our lives in North America.
