Following the past week's actions in Bhopal, today 600 people from the
Narmada valley gheraoed the NVDA, badwani office expressing their continued
anguish at the illegal cash compensation and to protest the Sardar Sarovar
dam that has gone up to 93 m, in violation of the Supreme Court judgement
and the Narmada tribunal. The Madhya Pradesh government responded by
lathi charge and several NBA activists and village people including Medha
Patkar & Sukumar have been beaten up. Not only this, there were only male
police on the scene and several women were beaten by them.

Calling the following numbers and expressing your knowledge of the
situation and concern for rights of the dam affected people will help. The
people are still on dharna and so please respond urgently. You can stress
that the stand MP should take would be to tell the truth about lack of
land for the lakhs of SSP oustees and to pursue the Supreme court case
filed by MP government to review the SSP dam height, and while the case is
in court, not permit any increase until rehabilitation is actually complete
at any level.
