Most of the content of the talk (.../nc.htm) is
material which is already available (e.g. at
 http://www.zmag.org).

The question and answer session (.../qa.htm) is a
bit more original, e.g. with questions about Diego
Garcia and Kashmir - though Chomsky points out
that audience members know much more than he does
about Kashmir.

He judges that POTO in India is more dangerous
than the Bush administration's attempts to crush
civil liberties in the US, because civil rights
movements in the US are more strongly rooted,
because members of the elite and private
corporations are not willing to give up their
freedoms to the government, and because in 1964,
US activists got the Supreme Court to eliminate
the law of seditious libel.

Seditious libel is defamation of the state, and
truth is not a defence for seditious libel - if
you defame (damage the reputation, criticise,
etc.) the state, you can be charged with seditious
libel, no matter how true your statements are.

Chomsky is aware of no other state that has
eliminated the law on seditious libel.
