An educational film for workers & unions that seeks to
answer basic questions such as what are the laws that
are to be amended? What rights of the workers are
currently protected under these laws? What is the
reality facing the workers today, when these laws were
in force? What the proposed amendments imply and seek
to do, to these rights. And a history of the struggles
of the working class, which lead, to the framing of
the existing laws. The film dicusses 4 major laws:
Factory Act, Trade Union Act, Industrial Disputes Act
and the Contract Labour Act. The film has been shot in
Mumbai, Pune, Sholapur and Nasik cities of
Maharashtra, India during the past 1 yrs.
The Indian People's Media Collective (IPMC) is an
organisation of students, activists and professionals
working towards returning the media to the people. The
mass media today instead of reflecting people's true
aspirations, is working against the interests of the
people. This docu-film is to further the objective of
the IPMC in creating a space for alternative views
reflecting the true reality and issues of the
masses. This film was made with financial support of
various trade unions and friends of IPMC. This film is
a collective effort of IPMC members, hence no
individual credits are mentioned.
