During his campaign, Bush is on record for having said on numerous occasions that he doesn’t believe in revenge. In an interview with Washington Post, on March 23rd,2000, Bush said: “I’ve got a reason for running…YOU CANNOT LEAD AMERICA TO A POSITIVE TOMORROW WITH REVENGE ON ONE’S MIND. REVENGE IS SO INCREDIBLY NEGATIVE.
Then on December 25th,2000, he repeats this to Time Magazine: "Let me put it this way, I am not a revengeful person."
Then, in Rome, in July 2001, GWB reassures the world that he knows what he believes in. "I know what I believe. I will continue to articulate what I believe- I believe what I believe is right."
If during the campaign, Bush is sure that he does not believe in vindictiveness, in light of 9-11 and his post 9-11 speech, the vocabulary he used shows clearly that he was lying to the US people. The "us versus them" policy was already in the making before he stole the presidency. On January 21,2000, Bush said to a student audience at the Iowa Western Community College:
"When I was coming up, it was a dangerous world, and you knew exactly who they were," he said. "It was us vs them, and it was clear who them was. Today, we are not so sure who the they are, but we know they’re there."
