Lateline broadcasts smuggled video from Curtin Detention Centre.
by Friends of the ABC 6:29am Sun May 5 '02 (Modified on 12:19am Mon May 6 '02) article#773
What you're about to see was not destined for public consumption. It shows some of the events leading up to a riot at Curtin last year. TV camera crews are not allowed anywhere near incidents like these, but the private prison company which runs the centres routinely videos its own activities. Lateline has obtained a copy of one of those tapes and what it reveals, raises serious questions about Government claims of adequate medical services and humane conditions.
Transcript of report on Curtin video.
"It's 1 June last year in an isolation block in Curtin Detention Centre.
Behind this reinforced door, two men have reached breaking point.
Inside the cell, the men are smashing their heads into walls and slashing themselves."
The shocking video from inside Curtin Detention Centre
Glad to see Lateline picking up from what Indymedia did in Woomera:
Humanise refugees.
