'Bandhs' are a typical Indian means of protest. Such total stoppage of work is organized frequently by political parties for the flimsiest reasons often supported by the State governments.
Most bandhs become 'successful' only because of fear of violence and often due to intimidation by the organizers.These bandhs have ben confirmed to be unconstitutional by the Supreme Court last week.
The bandhs cause untold inconvenience to ordinary citizens and great loss to the Nation.
The bandh in Jammu was said to be total. There surely was popular anger at the terrorist outrage.
Nevertheless it need to be realised that these bandhs do not in any way hurt the pepetrators of the terrorsit outrage. THEY IN FACT ARE BENEFITED INDIRECTLY DUE TO THE LOSS CAUSED TO THE iNDIAN ECONOMY.
It is time for all right-thinking and patriotic citizens to ponder on this and agree to banish bandhs as a means of protest.
