The meeting was presided over by the All India Democratic Women's Association, Subhashini Ali. Protesting against these barbaric killings, Ms Ali said: "This killing exposes the utter hypocrisy and falsehood of the high sounding claims of these terrorists. Such savagery violates the tenets of all religions and can have no place in civilised society.'' Expressing concern over the women and children deliberately targeted she stated: "This makes sure that the attacked would react violently and perpetuates the cycle of violence. We also want to ensure that this attack doesn't lead to the targeting of minorities.''

Ms Ali urged the Government to strengthen security, protect the lives of people in Jammu and Kashmir from terrorist attacks and step up the work of intelligence agencies. "Though the Government is assured the support of the country, but we caution them against jingoistic solutions,'' she said.

The Union Government and the State Government must also take necessary steps to win the confidence of the people in Kashmir to isolate the barbaric terrorist groups working at the behest of their backers in Pakistan, she added. At the end of the meeting women's groups pledged themselves to fight against all kinds of terrorism, fundamentalism and communalism by strengthening the unity of women and the struggle to save the secular and democratic fabric of India.
