Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said the farm workers get 100 crore man days in the season if the total area was cropped in the area.

He said as against the paddy area of 1.10 crore acres, only 15 lakh acres was transplanted so far. Similarly, cotton was sown on 7 lakh acres as against the area of 42 lakh acres. The major cotton producing districts like Nalgonda and Khammam too failed to get the normal area this year due to adverse seasonal conditions. He said oilseed crops had collapsed this year. He urged the Government to start works under `Food-for-work' programme.

He said if the Government failed to provide any work by August 15, the Union would organise raids on the government foodgrain godowns at mandal level and use it for executing workers. On `Chaduvula Panduga,' he said the programme would be successful only when the Government linked it up with mid-day meal scheme. Many children were not able to go to school because of hunger.

Mr. Venkat urged the Government to act fast on distribution of 60 lakh acres of Government land in the state. He ridiculed the BJP's call for land for the able tiller saying it was an attempt to sell the illegal lands of the landlords to the Government and later distribute them among the poor. On Tangedancha seed farm land in Kurnool district, Mr. Venkat said the agitation would continue until the entire land of the farm accounting for 1600 acres was distributed.

The CPI(M) district secretary, T. Shadrak, requested the Government to implement `Velugu' programme in all mandals of the district instead of 46 mandals as announced.
