Students of the Saraswathi Narayan College here submitted a petition to the Collector and students of the Madura College formed a human chain in front of their institution. Classes were suspended in both the colleges.

About 80 students of the Melur Government College observed fast demanding action against the police while students of the Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar College at Usilampatti pasted posters on buses condemning the police force for its ''repressive action''.

The main demand of the students is that the Government should hold talks with their representatives at the earliest.

Students of the Aruppukottai Devangar College and the Virudhunagar Senthilkumar Vellaichamy Nadar College staged an agitation.
