MEERUT: Security was intensified in Budhana in Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday, following tension over the arrest of three youths for allegedly trying to gangrape a minor girl.

The 14-year-old girl sustained 80 per cent burn injuries after the accused, allegedly threw acid at her.

The incident took a communal turn when slogan-shouting members of the Hindu community were confronted by the minority community members, who held that the youths were not the actual culprits.

The police said the incident took place on Friday evening.

The three youths tried to gangrape her, but fled when a few locals arrived. They then barged into the girl’s house at night and threw acid at her.

The victim was rushed to a primary health centre. On Saturday, she was shifted to the Muzaffarnagar district hospital after her condition deteriorated.
