It has been several weeks since our sister Kanchan Mishra, a 22-year old married woman (mother of a 10-months old son), was taken by force from her home by a local gangster, Sultan Mia, forcibly converted to Islam and then 'married' in a mosque with the blessing of the "Kaazi" (Muslim Priest). This criminal is being protected by several MPs in Bihar including the infamous Laloo Prasad Yadav , Siwan MP Shahabuddin and Minister of State Ejazul Haque and it is now known that a lavish reception was organised at Minister Ejazul Haque's residence itself to celebrate this rape. Several Police officers and political leaders are known to have attended this function. 

This is an excerpt from a report by Amarnath Tewary (Outlook Magazine) on this horrendous crime:

"The only fault of this married woman, Kanchan Mishra was that she was beautiful and Sultan Mia fell for her. The lust-crazed criminal forcibly lifted her in his car and performed "Nikaah" on November 12th at a mosque in the Mainpura locality of the town in which some heavy weight ruling party politicians were present. Not only this, even the officer-in-charge of the police station of the locality was also present to give protection to the abductor criminal. After the nikaah ceremony performed Sultan Mia drove straight-away for the honeymoon to the residence of the minister belonging to Simanchal area of the State in his beacon-fitted car where a lavish reception was organised in which several politicians including Siwan MP Shahabuddin and Minister of State Ejazul Haqq and other people who matters in the corridors of power were seen enjoying the delicacies of the food served. But none cared for Kanchan who hails from Bidupur locality of Vaishali district."

Every minute of everyday, we continue our efforts to get her rescued and yearn for her to be returned to her family. We believe that she is alive and still in the country and wants desperately to be returned to her husband and 10-month old son. As you may know, we continue to offer a Rs 750,000 reward for Kanchan's safe return. A separate reward of Rs 25,000 has been reportedly made available by the Bihar Police for anyone helping in the capture of Sultan Mia who has gone into hiding with the complicity of some members of the Police force and several Bihar politicians. Why this horrible crime has failed to get more attention from the Indian Media is clearly a mystery to us. We believe that no woman, whatever her religion, should have to endure this horrific ordeal. We also believe that through awareness of this terrible tragedy, the dignity & honour of many women throughout the world will be saved & protected.

Time can heal many things, but Kanchan is still missing and her baby and husband are desperately awaiting her return. Together, we must declare war against those who would harm or abduct our sisters. We must draw the line and resolve that we will not allow this to continue. We will not give up pursuing the perpetrators of such crimes.

For weeks now we have suffered a void and concern within our hearts that cannot be explained. Kanchan needs to be returned safe and sound to her home NOW! We fervently ask you to reflect on the one thing that transcends all boundaries, all religions and all cultures - the honour and dignity of a woman. We have provided some information on this website on how you can help. We also welcome any of your own initiatives which you may deem useful in expediting her rescue from the gangster's lair. We plead you to do everything you can to help her regain her freedom.
