| An eyewitness account of the massacre Eyewitness: 'They knocked on our doors' Survivors of Sunday's massacre in Indian-administered Kashmir have been describing what happened. Nadimarg is a tiny village some 50 kilometres south of the Kashmir summer capital Srinagar. It is inhabited entirely by Hindus, with 10 families living in the village. They are among the few Hindus still left in the Muslim-majority Kashmir valley. Most Hindu Kashmiris, known as Kashmiri Pandits, fled the valley after violence broke out in 1989. "This is the price we have to pay for staying back," survivor Chunni Lal, who lost his wife, said. The BBC's Altaf Hussain, who visited Nadimarg, said the bodies of the dead were laid out on a clearing, covered in white shrouds. Mourners beat their chests as relatives streamed past, the signs of the violence still very evident. Deepak Kumar, whose mother was among those killed, hid inside his house when the attackers came to his door. "There was a knock on the door. These people said 'we are security forces and want to search houses for militants,'" he told the Reuters news agency. He said he peeped through a hole and saw the villagers being lined up. "I closed my eyes and then I heard the shots. Another survivor, Satish, managed to slip away in the confusion. "I was dragged out of my house but then asked to accompany the militants as they searched another house," he told the BBC. "In the confusion I ran away. I only returned in the morning." Chunni Lal said he was lined up outside his house with other villagers after which the gunmen opened fire. "There were eight of them, dressed in battle fatigues. "I was hit. I fell down and pretended to be dead," he said. He managed to survive with a bullet wound in his arm. Local police officials had few leads and said they were still trying to identify those behind the killings. Among the visitors to Nadimarg was Yasin Malik, leader of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front and a leading separatist leader. He said he condemned the attack which he described as "barbaric". "There should be an impartial inquiry into the attack," he said. The separatists would offer their full support to such an inquiry, he said. But Chunni Lal is not impressed with the efforts. "We had approached the administration to strengthen the police presence in our village, because we felt insecure. "Nothing happened. Am I just reading the wrong sources? - as I never seem to read or hear of the Indian govt. ever taking any action. Gandhi would be proud! Allah Isshaytan.

| A new approach It is time for all Hindus here at HU to take a step back. Look at ourselves The members here probably come from rich Hindu families either living in the West (like myself) or in prosperity in India. It's alright to sit behind our PC'S and curse the sullahs day and night about their satanic ways (which is true but does it achieve anything?). I notice how the sullahs despite being the most stupid, in-bred and uncivilsed people on earth have got the whole world associating Kashmir with muslim suppression and Indian (read Hindu) dominance. The many massacres commited by the sullah barbarians against Hindus in Bangladesh, Kashmir, Gujarat... are looked over. Can someone please tell us what we should do. The BJP is in a coalition of some 10 parties all with their own interests so they cannot (or will not) push an overtly pro-Hindu agenda. The VHP has shown to be very selective in its priorities e.g. letting a sullah play Lord Ram. Modi, hero of the Hindus, appears to have gone quiet and not been seen pushing the Hindu view on the national stage. Have the Hindus got the fight in them? I'm willing to join the Hindu struggle..I just want to trust the intentions of the Hindu groups. We need solutions not just protest! How many more Hindus are going to face the barrel of a sullah barbarian!

| Hindus need guns These sad events show that Hindus of Kashmir have no other choice than to take guns to defend themselves against the muslim barbarians. The indian govt cannot stop the muhamedan murderers. These sullah pigs have guns to attack and kill unarmed Hindu men, women and children. If thay had to face Hindus with AK-47 these coward moslems would think twice before attacking. In Israel allmost all citizens have guns to defend themselves against the palestinian savages, why the same thing cannot be done with Kashmiri Hindus ?

We can write to central government to train kashmiri Hindus and provide guns to them. Does any body has e-mail of Hajpayee? If government don't do anything, then we can ask VHP, RSS to buy some guns and provide to these kashmiri Hindus.

| The Least That Members Of H.U. Can Do. The very least that we the members of H.U. can do is to take print-outs of all the photographs on this thread and pass it on to as many people as possible. The Hindus in the west can show it to their American co-workers and friends and educate them on what is going on in Jammu & Kashmir. Kindly DO NOT use the word Kashmir. The correct name of the state is Jammu & Kashmir. Hindus in India can first show these photos to their p-sec relatives and friends and then concentrate on the p-sec Hindu crowd. Try to get the Indian language media to publish atleast one photo. Is it not possible to send a handful of Kashmiri Pandits from the 300,000 in the refugee camps of New Delhi and Mumbai to the training camp in Pune ? In the last 20 years the Hindus of Jammu & Kashmir have not hit back even once. I think they are completely soaked in Gandhism. Even a kitten will hit back if its life is in danger. The Pandits can either become Kshatriyas and defend themselves and Hinduism in their state or they can continue with their 'Hindu-Muslim bhai-bhai' chant and become extinct. There is a lesson in this for all of us. What is happening in J & K today will happen in every nook and corner of India in another 10 years time.

All the 24 Kashmiri pandits massacred by muslim terrorists in Nadimarg in Shopian area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir today have been identified.
Nine women and two children were among those killed in the attack. Those killed were identified as:
