One day Strike organised successfully
Demanding justice for the project affected tribals of
V. Madugula mandal of Visakhapatnam district
All these years lakhs of tribals, dalits and poor are dispalced and affected adversly by the construction of irrigation projects. But till date, there is no national policy of rehabilitation. In absence of this policy gross injustice is being done to the week infavour of powerful.
Similar is the case of tribals of Jalampalli, Tatiparthi and sankaram panchyats of V.Madugula mandal of Viskhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh where three reservoirs are being constructed.
Pedderu resrvoir:
112 families are displaced by this reservoir and a rehabilitation package of Rs. 3.25 crores is allocated. But as part of that, except the construction of houses, there is no progress in other issues like compensation to the submerged lands and trees, providing amenities in the colony etc. In contrast to that the project construction process is going rapidly. The people demand that, a high level review should immediately conducted and the existing difficulties in implementation of rehabilitation packages should be solved.
Tarakarama and Urakagadda reservoirs:
These reservoirs are being constructed in Tatiparthi and Sakaram panchyats respectively. Till date not even single household was identified as displaced. Almost half of the project work is completed and till date no notices were served to the people affected by the project leave alone the compensation. The affected tribals demand that immediately survey should be conducted and the affected people should be identified and suitable rehabilitation package should be announced and implemented.
To bring these issues to the notice of the district administration representatives of the above affected families met Joint collector on 12th May and sought immediate action.
The review meeting supposed to be held on 28th May at the site of Pedderu project by Special Deputy Collector (land acquisition) also not happened.
In these circumstances, to bring the demands to the notice of the district administration, work was stopped at all the three reservoirs for one day on June 1st i.e today. The strike was successfully organised and no work was done at all three reservoirs.
P.S Ajya kumar Regional secretary, Andhra Pradesh Vyavasaya Vrittidarula Union (APVVU) participated in the strike at all three reservoirs and said that, in case the government doesn’t respond to the demands of the affected tribals, this one day strike will be transformed to an indefinite strike
