There are many reasons why I have thought to leave a short and instructive article on "Hispanidad" on India indymedia today.

And they are as relevant to the 50,000+ citizens of India who are registered as living in the Spanish state as they are relevant to the 5,000+ Spanishg citizens living in India.

Now as most Indians know, Columbus was not your fault.
He got lost, and a little over 500 years ago thought he was approaching your eastern islands when in fact he was entering the Carribean.

You have suffered the psychogeographical effects of such dislocation since.

Hispanidad like many days of "memorial" is best considered as a week of activity, proposal, counterproposal, ritual rites, gathering of people, media input & output.
And this year's Hispanidad was no different. In the states of central and south America and the Carribean life went as it usually goes. Without enough water, food, justice, honesty, accountability, you know the list in India.

In Spain Mr Aznar who is president of the Spanish Kingdom which this year celebrates 25 years of it's constitution which was the outcome of the death of the Fascist Dictator Franco, Hispanidad was marked as always by a jolly big military march, just like the ones you get in Asia.

But some people didn't turn up. Myself for example, and the principle elected representatives of the Basque and Catalan peoples. The Ambassador of Bolivia turned up, and so Mr Aznar stood amongst "strong leaders and their representatives" that blighted consequence of Bush's presidency to review soldier after soldier march on by.

They say in the long list of clichés generalisations that fuel international perception, that "strong leaders" act to unify nations, avert crises, lead their countries, and of course _win wars_. Neither Aznar nor the President of Bolivia nor indeed their master Bush have done so.

They say in the long list of clichés:
that some conflicts never end.
They list India and Pakistan.
they list Spanish and Basque.
they list Irish and British.
they list Israeli and Arab.

they do never seem to list the rich and the poor.
que se vayan todos!

is a global expression of Hispanidad.
and dear Indian reader, it means : May they all leave.
but it is stronger than that, it implies may they all go.

every criminal and every soldier.
