A new global tool for the globalization of resistance:
 http://www.social-movements.org

The directory of social movements is a data bank that gathers and sorts information about social movements around the world and puts it at the disposal of activists. The directory aims at promoting communication, mutual understanding and the building of bridges between the social movements and networks from different countries and continents that are working on similar issues, or different ones. This collective and interactive project is seen as a contribution to the creation of effective and dynamic trans-border and multi-issue coalitions, networks and campaigns in order to promote peoples’ rights and justice against corporate globalization. The directory is a global tool for social movements that is aimed at receiving inputs from social movements and that has been developed by a number of international networks, including the World Forum for Alternatives, ARENA (the Asian Regional Exchange for New Alternatives), CLACSO (the Latin American Social Sciences Council), Alternatives and
the Centre Tricontinental. It is already online at :

The launching will take place in two sessions. First, there will be a debate on the dynamic of the international convergences of social movements, with interventions by key actors in the mobilizations that have been taking place in Asia, Latin America, Africa and Europe. Then there will be a presentation of the directory of social movements, its objectives and how it can be used in convergence activities.
