Do we know how the figure of 5, 60, 000 crore for the river linking project was arrived at?

Do we have the right to Information?

No, Indians do not have that right.

The Freedom of Information Bill, 2000 introduced in Lok Sabha on 25 July, 2000 was passed as The Freedom of Information Bill, 2002 by Lok Sabha on December 2002 in pursuance of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Rajya Sabha has also passed it.

Although the President has given his assent in January 2003 and it has been notified in the Gazette of India as Act No. 5 of 2003 to make democracy and the rule of law work effectively through a mechanism of accountability but the government is yet to notify a date from which the Act will come into force.

Thus, access to Information is denied to Indian citizens.

The denial of this crucial right does make India Shine and creates a FEEL GOOD FACTOR in a handful of newspapers and the government controlled national media.
