On Women and Islam
In the Arab Women's Solidarity Association we aim to unveil the mind: to undo the false consiousness. In Paris recently, I saw girls demonstrating against the law to unveil them in schools. This is false consiousness. My father never veiled me. He said Islam depends on the mind. Those wome were covering their heads, but they had on make up! That is the post modern veil. It is ridiculous. They are victims, caught between religious fundamentalism and neo-colonialism.

On the WSF
I think this is the new super power and it is growing. I went to Porto Allegre, and this is my third Social Forum. This is a very important event. I am concerned about the attempts to centralize this process. We want no domination, no centalization. There is still a strong mentality of patriarchy. For example the Nobel Prize. I do not believe in the Nobel Prize. We must reverse the philosophy. The ordinary people should be respected more than the Nobel Prize People.
