| India Indymedia stuck??? By Irritated 20/03/2004 At 15:23 No change in content in months. No response to concerned readers/activists. Is this an activist site open to people thirsty for alternative media. or is it somebody's personal fiefdom? WE WILL MOUNT A CAMPAIGN TO SET UP A REAL INDIA.INDYMEDIA IF THINGS DONT SHAPE UP. Hey guys, whats going on? The front page hasnt changed in ages. Your contact link is broken, so we cant write to the administrators. What is going on??? Today is March 20th. Several Indian organizations are observing this as a day of protest against the US occupation of Iraq. Not a word on your (supposed to be OUR) site. Last month we made requests to include news about the massively successful strike by labour (February 24th) throughout India (strike to defend the right to strike); and india.indymedia's response? SILENCE. Either you guys straighten up your act or we will start campaigning to get a REAL India.indymedia site up. THis is shameful, especially when India is in the forefront of the fascist assault.
>>Add a comment Its true that india.indymedia.org looks same for ages now. I do share your concern about it. But let us discuss how best we shall help it to make it really a alternative to all other. You know very well that is the need of the hour more particularly today when the total media is been taken over by rightist fashist forces. | Instead of being irritated, how about adding your voice, your pen, your keyboard, your webcam, your minidisk and your feet to the struggle to keep information flowing? It is many months since a handful of volunteers from all over the world, all busy with other activities, stepped in to try and rescue the India Indymedia information node from the slough of fascist and communal postings that had it all but drowned. When the WSF action week happened in January 2004, several came forward to work alongside volunteers who poured in from different parts of the world - many of them chose to post at India.Indymedia instead of their own collectives, just to express their soldiarity. Where were the voices of local indy journalists and activists? Once again there is a huge need for indy activists to contribute their mite, not by making silly threats, but by coming forward to meet, chalk out action strategies for India happenings and most of all, to work at the site and keep it on the path to continual improvement. The handful of us who helped steer it through a host and platform change need your help and cooperation, not unhelpful attacks - we have enough of those from the forces of darkness and hate. Come on in and do your bit!
