KOLKATA: Three leftist organisations including CPI(ML) Liberation and the SUCI will jointly contest 108 seats in the coming assembly elections in the state. While SUCI will contest in 85 seats, Liberation will field candidates in 26 seats. CPI(ML) Unity Initiative and Centre for Communist Revolutionaries are also parts of the alliance.

Liberation state secretary Kartick Pal said in Kolkata on Wednesday that the four party alliance would fight the ruling Left Front, the Congress-Trinamul combine as well as the BJP in the polls. All these parties are stifling the people's movements, Pal alleged and said that his alliance would participate in the polls with an aim to intensify agitations against the anti-people policies of both the Centre and the state government.

Strongly criticising the ruling Left Front, Pal said that the state government had failed to deliver goods in all respects during its 24-year rule and had long deviated from the Leftist path.

Describing the Congress-Trinamul combine as an opportunistic and reactionary alliance, the Liberation leader said that if this combine managed to come to power in the state, it would work against the interests of the people.

Critical of the Party for Democratic Socialism, Pal said that while PDS leader Safuddin Choudhury was now crying hoarse against CPM's atrocities, he had never protested when the CPM had let lose a reign of terror against the Naxalites in various parts of the state.
