The Commonwealth Film Festival exist to showcase and promote filmmakers from the 71 nations of the Commonwealth, but also to explore issues that surround these countries, such as politics, economic and social development, human rights, justice and equality. Cinema is at the leading edge of that exploration, as film makers undertake journeys beyond the frontiers of their audience’s knowledge, bringing back vibrant and powerful stories from a teeming world. Many of the films we screen are from countries whose films would never be shown to an audience in the UK otherwise.
I would love to see underground/activists films from India dealing with these issues submitted to the festival. If you think that this sounds interesting and you think that you know of any films that may be suitable it would be great if you got in touch. Our only criteria for the films is that they are made in, or with, a Commonwealth country, that they have been made in the past 18 months and not screened in Manchester before.
