On the Grievances day- Monday- 7th February, around 2000 fisher people of Nellore district have organized peaceful rally and demonstration in front of District Collectrate demanding the government to take up the rehabilitation. The main demands are:
1. Provide 100 kg rice and additional Rs.1000/- towards immediate relief.
2. Any support of the government should be given directly avoiding the interference of Velugu department and corporate sector.
3. Right off all the old loans of fisher people.
4. Supply diesel with 50% subsidy
5. Provide 100% subsidy for all the victims to buy new boats and nets
6. Take up government housing program at the habitation place

These are the demands made after tired of negotiations with the government and also with government recommended companies which are producing boats and nets. Government is washing away their hands of supporting tsunami victims by way of linking to the boat companies who agreed to support the boats and nets on loan with exorbitant rates.

Further, whatever the promises made by the government either for immediate relief and also rehabilitation remained in paper without implementation

Since, there is no response after repeated request, peaceful demonstration is organized. Knowing the fact that the fisher people are coming in a big way to represent the demands on the grievances day the district Collector was not available in the office. Therefore, fisher people demanded the District Collector to receive their memorandum directly. Since the district Collector do not want to meet these people even after 6 hours of demonstration, sent the police to use their lotties to clear off the traffic. As result many injured and one person is in serious condition. 60 people are arrested.

We request you to send fax /mails to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh condemning the police attacks, arrests and also take disciplinary action against the Collector. Further the demands of fisher people should be considered not only for Nellore and all those tsunami victims in the entire coast of Andhra Pradesh. Therefore, we solicit your support by sending letters to the Chief Minister and Minister for fisheries.
