| | Leading democratic rights activist attacked by ABVP in Banga
Prof. V. S. Sreedhar, Professor of English at Vijaya College (Bangalore) and a leading member of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike as well as the Citizens' Initiative for Peace (CIP), was attacked today morning by ABVP members in his college premises.
The incident occurred 15th Feb morning at around 10:45am while he was teaching. A gang of youths, claiming to be ABVP members, entered Vijaya college shouting slogans and demanded that the students should boycott classes in protest against Prof.Sreedhar's involvement in CIP. Then they entered the classroom where he was teaching, asked the students to leave the room and started abusing him using foul language. Some of them started beating him up and when his students tried to protect him, they were also beaten up. The attackers left when the students resisted strongly. It may be noted that the Sangh Parivar had been recently demanding the arrest of Prof. Sreedhar or being a "pseudo-intellectual supporting Naxalite activities in Karnataka". The fact that Prof. Sreedhar had been actively involved in the campaign against the communalisation of Bababudangiri shrine by the saffron brigade has possibly resulted in the Sangh Parivar marking him as a prime target for harassment. In protest of such a heinous act, a dharna will be held tomorrow in front of Vijaya College, Jayanagar, demanding the immediate arrest of the arrest of the ABVP members who attacked Prof. Sreedhar. sorry for the delayed reply. I think you don't know the fact. prof. Sridhar is supporter of Anti-National Naxalites. That's why ABVP activistes took up the protest againsst him. I was the student of Sridhar. Half a Period he spends encouraging Naxals. I think ABVP is right. No body students were beaten by them that day, inclluding Sridhar. Don't immoralise the peoples, know the truth. |
