I was fully motivated by the open letter addressed to the president of India regarding the construction of RDF facility in Delhi.

I do acknowledge the fact that i am not that expert in POPS monitoring and sampling but i do know few things that should be enough to safeguard my domain.

On my home vacation last summer to the northern hills of India, Dharamshala, Kangra valley. I was fully captured by the beauty and the natural landscapes as ever. Felt very happy about the fact that the Municipality has totally banned polythene bags in the markets and those found guilty were charged with huge amounts to both, the customer and the shopkeeper.

As i was strolling my way up to higher grounds to take some fresh air, i saw a bunch of school kids watching (from distance)the construction of a huge tall & slim tower. I could not dare to step near that site and question since that site belongs to ARMY.

The residents and the school kids were happy as they pass along that site witnessing the tall shining tower pointing up to the sky. They expect now they can even catch better signals of Akash Vani and FM band signals. Some of them even took to gambling whether it could be a mobile signal tower or a state-of-the-art radio tower. They knew nobody could win since its an army stuff...better stay away not aware.


I had a great time meeting my old friends but never got a chance to warn them or to bother the municipalities since i only came to know lately that it was not a signal tower neither it was a state-of-the-art radio tower, but an army INCINERATOR.

I was told (later) that they would bring the waste up here to be incinerated! The main question that still bothers me is what type of waste and why that particular site? Just few meters away it shares a common boundary to a Tibetan Boarding School, known to all as Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV). Was the school authority not informed or are not aware at all of what’s happening nearby? This syndrome is far worse than NIMBY syndrome. Or the responsible authority felt not necessary of doing a simple EIA study of the same?

In short, i had a memorable time during my stay, sadly i was not able to witness the unholy white smoke coming from that stack but I am sure the residence would not miss and had no choice but to see how the smoke plays with their life.
