In a patriarchal society, women do not cherished equal respect as the men enjoy. No matter how talented or versatile personality they may be, every single opportunity of becoming equal is crushed. By hook or crook men prove that they are after all men. Yes, allegations like these are usually levelled against the men community by women groups.. Especially, when the modern-clad women are demanding reservation for themselves at any public platform. Well, it is always interesting to ponder why do women from metro cities, instead of rural backgrounds demand for it at all?
In cities like Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore women do enjoy equal freedom as men do. They have equal access to food and shelter, education and profession. The present generation parents do understand why there shouldn't be any discrimination between the children on the basis of gender. That's why every single probability of favouritism towards any child is avoided to the best of ability. As a result, both grow naturally and enjoy similar support of elders and society. But suddenly, once it comes to earning livelihood a frantic appeal or thundering demand is made for 'special category' status. I wonder if all women would support such kind of reservation in public life. At least in cities when modern girls/women support such an appeal it looks funny. Despite studying in co-educational schools/colleges and enjoying equal access to everything such demands look ridiculous.
There are many who call themselves feminists but seek reservation-an edge over male counterparts. Why? Many women organizations usually raise questions about the rights and respect of women. It is complained women are treated and hawked like animals by men. In the name of love, sex, marriage or dowry they are mistreated and used. Everyday subjects like these are chanted in every single news bulletin. But are such complaints representing absolute truth? Do women never subscribe to petty methods for buying comfort in their lives? It is not always the men, in many cases, women know how wrong they are much before declaring themselves 'helpless souls'. It is unfortunate to notice even the modern women adapting short cuts to rise in life.
Generally, no man underestimates the power and potential of a woman. It is the woman who is noticed to be compromising with her dignity for petty means. No matter how sympathetic grounds anyone may cite for such ways, but they fail to be regarded as justified. The greed to easy money often leads to exploitation its ultimate outcome. Until sheer talent is believed to be the best medium for success, overnight prosperity looks an unrealised dream. Do such tactics create solid ground for reservation for women living in cities? Or, men are to be blamed for such a mentality?
Surprisingly, there are several women folk who admit it is not the men alone but the members of their genders too who are to be blamed for all this. In a mad run to look better placed in life self-respect is often submitted to men. The overtures or tantalizing gestures are enough to send across a willingness of seeking favour in barter. Like bad fishes of a pool they make other sincere career women's lives become impossible without imitating them. As once such offers are so easily available, why would anyone go without it and help in anyone without it. So who digs the potholes for women?
Right from childhood they get equal facilities in cities. In what concern they feel lesser favourite of God? Be it beauty, sex or chance of lending into a good job (high salaried job) they have an edge over their male counterparts. Even before law they derive the benefit of being just a woman. They have more freedom to flaunt their curves or coquettish behaviour. Be it any public place or office they get the first preference of boss/officers. Increment in pay scale /promotion and the opportunity of being the 'faithful' of boss is already their privilege. Be it any profession the power of women is visible. They are preferred despite being lesser eligible/ or talented than the poor male fellows. Call it tantrums or anything else, they are always successful in deriving favours from lecherous bosses /officials.
Gone are the days when any talk about women would derive a picture of a helpless, weak, dependent and oppressed personality in anyone's mind. Today, it is the half-covering, half-revealing and highly provocative dressed woman's image that props up in the mind. And, these are supported by feminist mindsets as the women-power and right to live on their own terms. Surprisingly, if women can enjoy this much liberty, why do they turn incapacitated to undergo hardships for earning their livelihood? What inspires them to ask for reservation or privileged status? If even the most irresponsible lads or immature minds can earn bread without 'reservation', why cannot girls?
Isn't it the neglected and discriminated rural women who urgently require maximum freedom through reservations? Looking at their plight in villages-- kept to confines through heinous restrictions-it is the rural women who deserve it the most for their up- liftment. They need a support to voice their concern and neglect by society. Sadly, it is the modern women who take advantage of their plight and usually demand reservations for themselves. How far is it a fair demand?
In this modern era, the reservation should be abolished to deliver a strong message ---All are equal. Living under the same spread of sky, breathing in the same fresh/polluted air and having equal access to basic facilities why do one gender be the reason of generating a deep divide. Will it not generate hatred, more discrimination and sense of rivalry and oppression among males? What do you think?
