The Indian Express story of 10, July, 2005 by Prarthna Gahilote is incomplete without the investigation of the source of funding for "Rashtriya Abhiman", an NGO dealing with rural upliftment must be brought to light.

The fact that Sahib Singh Verma, former Chief Minister of Delhi and former Union Labour Minister runs this NGO does not give him the right to undermine recharging of Delhi’s underground water resources.

The way Rashtriya Abhiman is filling up of 30-acre natural depression is a sure disaster for natural heritage and will cause a slow drying up of Delhi’s water table.

A catchment area of more than 30 acres in south Delhi’s Qutub Institutional area serves as a 5 km-long jogging track for Verma destroying historic water channels.

The area, originally a part of the extension of the Sanjay Van, has now been filled up with mud to
undertake a plantation and greening exercise there.

The catchment used to serve as source of water for the 13th century Hauz Khas lake built by Sultan Alauddin Khilji for the residents of Siri.

Verma is known for misrepresentation of facts and his callousness towards the environmental health. On 7th May, 2003, Miss Mabel Rebello presented a petition to the Rajya Sabha signed by S.S. Chouhan, General Secretary, Indian National Building Construction Workers Federation (INBCWF), New Delhi and two others regarding need for the legislative measures to improve the conditions of unorganized workers/construction workers/migrant labourers and to ban use of asbestos and close asbestos mines and factories and destroy all existing asbestos. But instead of responding to the ongoing massacre of the Indian workers, Verma chose to promote the use of cancer causing asbestos.
