A woman in Rajasthan has accused her husband and in-laws of forcing her to have sex with other family members to make her conceive, and then throwing her out of the house when she failed.

Tara, 34, a resident of Bharatpur village, lodged a complaint last week at the Sewar police station in Bharatpur district.

"In her complaint, the woman has said that her in-laws, including her husband, forced her into having sex with her husband's brother Jagan Singh," a police official said in a telephonic interview.

"Tara has accused Jagan Singh and another person, Radhe, of raping her repeatedly. She has also accused her husband, in-laws and sister-in-law for supporting Jagan in the criminal offence," said the police official.

Her troubles began 15 years ago when Tara got married. In the beginning, she was allegedly harassed by her in-laws for dowry. But as the years passed and she did not conceive, the alleged atrocities by her in-laws increased.

Police sources said the dispute had appeared for discussion before two local panchayats - of Tada and Bachhamji villages. But both panchayats forced her to go back to her in-laws where they allegedly continued to harass her.

Tara, who is currently living with her brother in Bachhamji village, was finally thrown out of her house for failing to conceive, he added.

Some women's organisations have come to the victim's aid.
