Thousands of oustees (dam-building victims) from the Narmada valley, along with
prominent social activists, severely criticised the Supreme Court verdict as an
'anti-people' decision and have asked the Court to include them among the
accused in the contempt-of-court proceedings against Medha Patkar and
Arundhati Roy. This was declared at a large rally held at Indore on April 10, at the conclusion of the 'Narmada Sangharsha Parikrama'.

The Narmada Bachao Andolan expresses deep shock and anguish at the
deliberate and cold-blooded firing on and slaughter of 7 innocent tribals
including a 8-year old girl by the Madhya Pradesh government and police
force in Mehendikheda village of Bagli Tehsil of District Dewas last week.
This ruthless act fully exposes the callous attitude of the Digvijay Singh
government and demolishes its hypocritical mask of genial democracy .
